Sheryl Leroy and Karen Tarapata – River Hook: Creating a Preserve from a Delinquent Property

We will hear in this class the story of the purchase of a property in disrepair by the village of Upper Nyack and its transformation into a preserve that takes into account the environment and the input of the community. Some history of the property and its previous owners will be shared along with the work that is currently on-going and planned for the preserve. This class is co-presented by Karen Tarapata, the mayor of Upper Nyack, and Sheryl Leroy, the President of the Friends of River Hook. They will also share how the village and the Friends are working together to create a preserve that will be a haven for native flora and fauna, outdoor art, community building, and peace.
